Is it safe to convert bank statements online?

A bank statement contains sensitive account, transaction and identity information. Whether conversion is safe depends less on the file format and more on where the PDF goes, what happens to it, and how long it is retained.

StatementBee works locally. Your PDF is processed on your device, not uploaded to our servers or sent to an AI model.

Check whether the file is uploaded

Many converters send the PDF to a server for processing. That means a third party receives a copy of the document, even if it promises to delete it later.

StatementBee processes the PDF in your browser. The statement does not travel to our servers, so there is no uploaded copy to retain or expose.

Be careful with AI tools

An AI assistant normally needs the PDF or its text uploaded before it can answer questions about it. It can also misread tables, omit lines or generate plausible-looking details that were not present in the statement.

For bookkeeping data, use a repeatable extraction process and check that the result reconciles to the source statement. Do not treat an AI response as a financial record without verification.

Verify the output before importing

Check the row count, dates, amounts, signs and opening and closing balances. Review any flagged rows before importing into accounting software.

No conversion tool can turn a PDF into an authoritative record by itself. The original bank statement remains the source of truth.

Convert without sending out the statement.

Export Excel, CSV, QBO, QIF or OFX and check the balance before you download.
